This prize was established in 2004 via the Victoria University Foundation to encourage postgraduate study in History. The prize was made possible through a bequest from Channa Durden in memory of her sister Esther Zander and is offered in honour of family members who studied at Victoria University of Wellington. Ir is awarded to the student judged to be most worthy who has completed an MA or PhD thesis in History.

Information

This prize was established in 2004 via the Victoria University Foundation to encourage postgraduate study in History. The prize was made possible through a bequest from Channa Durden in memory of her sister Esther Zander, members of the Wellington Jewish community, most of whose family subsequently chose to reside in Israel, and is offered in honour of family members who studied at Victoria University of Wellington.

1. The prize shall be known as the Zander and Durden Families Prize in History.

2. The prize shall be awarded annually to the student judged to be most worthy of the award who, in the year of the award, has completed a thesis in History for the degree of MA or PhD.

3. No student may be awarded the prize more than once.

4. The prize shall be awarded on the recommendation of the Head of the School of History, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations in consultation with the Head of the History Programme.

5. The value of the prize shall be determined after consideration of the income from the fund. The balance of income not expended shall be added to the fund.

6. Recipients will be asked to write a letter of appreciation which will be forwarded to the donor.
