Made annually to a student completing an undergraduate degree with a major in Geography with the highest grade point average and who is commencing an Honours or Masters Degree in Geography, specialising in Human Geography.

This award arises from a bequest made by Dr Susanne Rae Walker, a graduate of Victoria University of Wellington, to recognise the distinctive approach to Geography at Victoria University of Wellington, and to encourage further study in Geography.

The recipient will be judged to be of sufficient academic merit by the Programme Director Geography in consultation with the Postgraduate Programme Coordinator Geography. Preference will be given to students specialising in Human Geography. No award shall be made in any year in which the Programme Director Geography and Postgraduate Programme Coordinator Geography consider there is no candidate of sufficient merit. If in any year the Prize is not awarded, the funds may be used in a subsequent year.

Recipients will be asked to acknowledge the source of the funding in subsequent essays, theses, or in research publicity.

Recipients will be asked to write a thank you letter to the donor of the award.
