This award arises from a bequest by Hugh Vickerman in 1960 to provide a scholarship, bursary or prize to students enrolled at the University to pursue professional engineering studies. The award shall be open to any student taking the Engineering Intermediate Examination (or any substituted or equivalent examination) including students taking the first year of a Bachelor of Engineering at the Victoria University of Wellington.
The award shall be made annually to the student who in the opinion of the Dean of the Wellington Faculty of Science has done the best work in the year in which he/she qualifies for the award and is deemed to be worthy of the award.

1. The award shall be known as the Vickerman Engineering Award.

2. The award shall be open to any student taking the Engineering Intermediate Examination (or any substituted or equivalent examination) including students taking the first year of a Bachelor of Engineering at the Victoria University of Wellington.

3. The award shall be made annually to the student who in the opinion of the Dean of the Wellington Faculty of Science has done the best work in the year in which he/she qualifies for the award and is deemed to be worthy of the award.

4. The holder of the award shall during the currency of the award pursue professional engineering studies at a university in New Zealand.

5. The value and period of tenure of the award shall be determined from time to time by the Academic Board having regard to the income from the fund.

6. If in any year the whole of the income from the fund is not expended, the balance may be used in a subsequent year or added to the capital fund as the Academic Board shall decide.

7. The award may be held with any other bursary, scholarship or similar award.
