Concrete Prize

Eligibility

Offered by the NZ Concrete Society, the selection for recipients shall be on the basis of the following criteria:
* Recognition of excellence in environmental, architectural, and structural design and construction.
* The research is aimed at enhancing knowledge in the application and use of concrete and cementitious materials.
* Students show proven achievement in tertiary studies.
* Students will be nominated from those undertaking their final year of undergraduate study and who are contemplating further postgraduate studies in the field of concrete and cementitious materials.

Information

1. The awards shall be known as the Concrete Prize of the New Zealand Concrete Society.

2. Each Concrete Prize shall comprise:
~ An award of $4,000 cash;
~ Attendance at the following year's New Zealand Concrete Conference, including registration, travel expenses of up to NZ$300, and accommodation.
~ One year's complimentary membership of the NZ Concrete Society.

3. Up to four prizes shall be awarded each year.

4. Recipients will be selected by a committee of the New Zealand Concrete Society from applications received from students at New Zealand tertiary education institutes. The selection committee shall recommend that no award be made if it considers there to be no suitable candidate in any year.

5. Nominees will be students undertaking their final year of undergraduate study OR students undertaking post-graduate research.

6. Recipients shall be selected based on consideration of the following criteria:
~ Commendation received by The Council of the New Zealand Concrete Society from the academic staff of the relevant faculties at each educational institution.
~ Achievement in coursework related to concrete and cementitious materials.
~ Quality and usefulness of research intended to enhance knowledge in the application and use of concrete and cementitious materials.
~ Intent of the nominee to remain involved with the New Zealand cement and concrete industry. This may be demonstrated by intent to conduct post-graduate research related to concrete and/or cementitious materials or by intent to find work with companies recognised in the fields of concrete and/or cementitious materials and design.
~ General suitability of the candidates including character.

7. Each recipient is to provide a poster or oral presentation of their studies at the following year's conference. A brief summary paper shall be prepared for inclusion in conference proceedings.

8. Applications must reach the secretary of the New Zealand Concrete Society before the end of the last working day of September. The form of the final application is to be decided by the applicant, but should include a supporting statement from a member of the academic staff of the applicant's tertiary education institute
