The prize is awarded to the best student with First Class or Second Class (First Division) Honours in Greek.

Information

This prize was established in 1948 by Sir Harry Batterbee, the first High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand.

The prize is awarded on the recommendation of the Head of the Classics Programme to the student most deserving of the distinction who gains First Class or Second Class (First Division) Honours in Greek, either as a single subject or as a half-subject, at the Victoria University of Wellington.

The value of the prize is determined after consideration of the income from the fund. The balance of income not expended shall be added to the fund.

Recipients are encouraged to spend part of the prize money on a book or books.

Recipient will be asked to write a letter of appreciation which will be forwarded to the donor.
