Stigma, Discrimination and Sex Work Laws
I am a Media Studies Honours Graduate currently working on a Masters of Criminology under the supervision of Lynzi Armstrong. My thesis is funded by a Marsden Fast Start scholarship and explores the way sex work and sex work laws are connected to stigma perpetuated by news media across different legislative models. By studying media representations of sex workers via a critical discourse analysis I hope to contribute to pinpointing the place of the media in constructing representations of sex workers, I am aiming to provide information that enhances safety and human rights for these historically marginalised workers.
