Postgraduate study
Postgraduate students at Robinson experience a stimulating intellectual environment and gain practical skills while pursuing their Masters or PhD research.
Postgraduate student profiles
Our postgraduate students are an integral part of our project teams. They experience a mix of practical problem solving and academic learning working alongside our world-class science and engineers.
We welcome students from universities and technology institutes around the world. Hear about their experiences working at the Institute.
Available Projects
Our Masters and PhD projects are based around our existing applied and fundamental research programmes. Students do real discovery work, make genuine advances to science and many will see their products commercialised.
Research projects are tailored to the skills and the needs of an individual student. They cover mechanical, mechatronic and electrical engineering and physics.
Work-ready graduates
The unique practical experience we offer students is highly sought-after by employers in New Zealand and overseas, who are looking for graduates with hands-on skills as well as recognised academic qualifications.
Graduates who have studied with Paihau—Robinson Research Institute find they can introduce the new technology and capability they have learned with us quite readily in their jobs. Also, their experience in project management often sees them advance to leadership positions within industry.
PhD candidate comment
I've learned a lot about superconductivity and electron microscopy from people with quite different areas of expertise.
