NZCIEL was established in 2007 at the Faculty of Law of Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. Since the launch the NZCIEL operates as an interdisciplinary centre of research excellence on all issues relating to international economic law. The founding co-directors were Susy Frankel and Meredith Lewis.
