Jason Lescelius, one of the Centre for Applied Cross Cultural Research's (CACR) first year Masters students, has been awarded a Summer Research Scholarship to undertake some work for the Settlement, Protection and Attraction Division at MBIE (Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment).

The project is titled - Migrant Youth: Exploring current characteristics, needs, barriers, and opportunities.
The Settlement Strategy and Products Team in Immigration New Zealand (MBIE) is in the initial stages of working with migrant youth in New Zealand. Under the supervision of Professor Colleen Ward, Jason will be joining the MBIE team to gain insight into who migrant youth in New Zealand are, where they live, and what challenges they face when adapting to life in their new home. Jason will most likely be involved in two components of this project. The first draws on existing datasets from the Census and Immigration New Zealand to create a snapshot of migrant youth in New Zealand. The second focuses on face-to-face interaction with migrant youth in order to explore, in their own words, their views on current services available to them, barriers to success, and potential actions that could be taken to better support their settlement in New Zealand.
