Chair's purpose

In 2019, the Chair for Pacific Region Business was established to promote and support effective, sustainable NZ business engagements in the Asia–Pacific region.

The Chair’s aim is to deepen New Zealand’s expertise and understanding of the Asia–Pacific region, promoting research and programmes that will enhance the business community’s ability to connect with opportunities in this region.

The Chair’s objectives are to:

  • coordinate the Business School’s Asia–Pacific focus
  • contribute to teaching programmes in economics, government, and international business
  • lead executive education to build capability in the business sector, the public sector, and the professions
  • supervise graduate research projects and PhD research
  • develop research themes on significant issues affecting business in the Asia–Pacific region with a policy focus including:
    • trade tensions, the US–China trade/tech war, and anti-globalisation
    • Pacific region implications of the COVID-19 pandemic
    • how to make our economy less internationally ‘leaky’ and more value-focused
  • give public lectures and workshops and provide commentary for the media.
