NZSM Artist Teacher Jasmine Lovell-Smith presents a programme of original compositions for jazz quintet, featuring Jake Baxendale (winds), Daniel Hayles (piano), Emma Hattaway (bass) and Hikurangi Shaverien-Kaa (drums).

Praised by NZ Musician for her "intriguing intersection of avant-garde art music and chamber jazz," Jasmine's music combines songlike melodies and finely etched counterpoint, inviting spontaneous ensemble interplay from the members of her ensemble. After beginning her career in New Zealand, Jasmine spent a number of years living in the United States (New York, NY and Middletown, CT) and Mexico, where she participated in the local scenes as a performer, composer, and educator, before returning to New Zealand in 2017 to complete her doctorate at the NZSM. Recent projects have included the Noveltones, commissions for the Wellington Jazz Festival and Stroma, and large ensemble album 'Sanctuary,' recorded in collaboration with Jake Baxendale, which was released in June of 2021.
