New online jazz improvisation competition for secondary students

The New Zealand School of Music—Te Kōkī is pleased to announce an online Jazz Improvisation Competition for secondary students, in association with MusicWorks.

The competition is open to all jazz instrumentalists and vocalists: Saxophones, Clarinet, Flute, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano/Keyboards, Guitar, Bass and Vocals. A separate drum set solo competition is also being run.

Entrants will record themselves playing a tune using a provided backing track, performing an improvised solo which will be judged by lecturers from the New Zealand School of Music—Te Kōkī jazz programme.

The competition includes online preparatory tutorials presented by lecturers from the New Zealand School of Music—Te Kōkī, Victoria University of Wellington. Prizes have been generously provided by MusicWorks.
