Sound art residency call for applications
The New Zealand School of Music—Te Kōkī and Toi Pōneke Arts Centre are pleased to announce the 5th annual Sound Art Residency, with a call for submissions.
The 12-week residency includes studio space, technical and logistical support, access to NZSM studios and equipment, and a three-week exhibition at Toi Pōneke Arts Centre. The candidate is also provided with a stipend during the residency.
Past recipients of the residency have included: Thomas Voyce, who is now a Lecturer in Composition and Sonic Arts at NZSM; Flo Wilson and Olivia Webb, who jointly held the residency in 2017; drummer and producer Cory Champion; and Amy Jean Barnett, who collaborated with the Leigh Marine Laboratory during her residency last year.
The opportunity is open to Wellington-based professional emerging or mid-career artists, and preference is given to candidates who propose projects seeking interaction with NZSM, Toi Pōneke, the greater Wellington arts community and general public.
Dugal McKinnon, Deputy Director and Co-Director of the Lilburn Studios for Electronic Music at the New Zealand School of Music - Te Kōki says the residency has been an important addition to the arts scene in Wellington over the past five years. “Our partnership with Toi Poneke sustains this unique residency, which continues to foster Wellington’s outstanding talent in sound-based art. This fifth iteration will add to the body of wonderful work already created through the residency.”
