Priya Kurian is associate professor of political science and public policy at the University of Waikato.

A former journalist in India, her research spans the areas of environmental politics and policy, science and technology, gender and development, and sustainable development.

She is the author or co-editor of four books, including Engendering the Environment? Gender in the World Bank’s Environmental Policies (Ashgate, 2000) that focused on a case study of the World Bank-funded Sardar Sarovar Dam Project in India. She is co-principal investigator of a Marsden Fund research grant of the Royal Society of New Zealand for a project on “Sustainable Citizenship”.
