Jane McCabe is a fixed-term lecturer in the Department of History and Art History at the University of Otago. Jane teaches courses in South Asian and Global History, and researches at the intersection of race, intimacy and the family.

Her recently published Race, Tea and Colonial Resettlement (Bloomsbury, 2017) examines the resettlement of 130 mixed-race children from Assam tea plantations to New Zealand vis a Scottish mission school in northeast India. This project has involved significant contact with and contributions from the large community of Kalimpong descendants now living all around New Zealand.

Jane is currently working on a cross-cultural history of farming families and inheritance, 1870-1970, funded by a Marsden Fast Start grant.
