Dr Sekhar Bandyopadhyay

Sekhar Bandyopadhyay is Professor of Asian History at Victoria University of Wellington.

His primary research interest is in the history of nationalism and caste in colonial and postcolonial India. He is also interested in the history of Indian migration and Indian Diaspora. He has published extensively on these subjects.

He is Associate Editor of the New Zealand Journal of Asian Studies, an Inaugural Fellow of the New Zealand Academy of Humanities and a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand. He is currently engaged in a research project on 'Dalits in the history of Partition in eastern India', funded by a Marsden grant from the Royal Society of New Zealand.
