Daniel Brown is the Chair of Strategic Engagement in the Wellington School of Architecture at Victoria University of Wellington. His India related research interests focus on architectural narratives in the traditional architecture of India.

He began this research with a 1997 research fellowship grant from the American Institute of Indian Studies to spend nine months in India documenting Hindu temples that narrate mythological stories. Since then, he has received two related research fellowship grants from the Asian Cultural Council and led three Victoria University of Wellington field study courses to India to introduce students to architectural narrative and cultural context.

His research focuses on how architectural narratives can be applied to contemporary architecture to challenge our perceptions of our built environment.
