Victoria University of Wellington celebrates staff excellence

Outstanding staff at Victoria University of Wellington have been honoured at the University’s annual Staff Excellence Awards.

Awards were given out for excellence in research and teaching, as well as for excellence in equity and diversity, engagement, and health and safety.

In addition, this year two new awards were presented for the first time—the Sustainability Excellence Award for work that strives to address environmental and sustainability issues, and the Impact Excellence Award acknowledging staff whose research has made a strong contribution to wider society.

Speaking at the ceremony last night, Vice-Chancellor Professor Grant Guilford said the awards were a chance to recognise the University’s most engaged and hardworking people.

“Every year we gather to acknowledge colleagues who have displayed an inspiring level of achievement at the University. It is our chance to say thank you and well done, to ensure our high achievers all know how proud we feel of them and—in a wider sense—to declare how important staff excellence is to the aspirations of our ambitious university.

“Victoria University of Wellington prizes excellence. This commitment spans everything we do—in research, in teaching, in engaging with our community, and in the professionalism of those of us whose role it is to support others to succeed.

“2018 was yet another outstanding year and our achievements show we are well on the way to becoming a world-leading capital city university and one of the great global-civic universities.”
