Launch of Te Whē – te hau o te whenua

Unity Books, 57 Willis St, Wellington

Come and celebrate the online launch of this new bilingual Māori literature journal.

Featuring poetry, short stories, and essays in Te Reo Māori and English, the journal includes work from some of Aotearoa’s most talented Māori writers.

The writing in the journal began with a wānanga at Ngāti Tukorehe marae early this year. It was a way to 'discover what could be created if we used Kaupapa Māori as our structure and inspiration,' says co-editor Anahera Gildea. She and Nadine Anne Hura then set out to 'see what happens when we, as Māori writers, define the terms.'

Anahera is currently on hiatus from a PhD Creative Writing candidate at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington's International Institute of Modern Letters, to convene one of the IIML's 2020 MA workshops.

The journal has been published as a limited print run but is available for free online at www.tewhe.nz. All are welcome to join the celebration with readings from contributors.
