This two-week programme showed the 16 students and two staff members from the Digital Media and Animation School the in-and-outs of study at the MCC in the midst of the Wellington film industry.

The CUZ students were impressed by all that Wellington has to offer, fully immersing themselves into the full 10-day itinerary. They experienced the University’s facilities, lecturers, and graduates, and enjoyed workshops with Wellington film companies—Pukeko Pictures, Weta Digital, and Park Road Post Production.

“We put together a really diverse and interesting programme to showcase the incredible talent and resources that the MCC and Victoria University of Wellington has to offer,” says MCC Director Dr Paul Wolffram. “They got to participate in workshops on makeup prosthetics, 3D printing design, and motion capture, and experience, with an augmented reality headset, the new games being designed by Weta Gameshop.”

“We are positive that this will be the first of many courses to come between Chinese students and the Miramar Creative Centre,” says Dr Wolffram.

Assistant Vice Chancellor (International Engagement) Rebecca Needham agrees. “The study tour proved to be a highly successful example of international engagement and collaboration across the University, with different Schools and departments, including the Centre for Lifelong Learning, supporting the MCC in the design and delivery. Building on this collaborative approach, we are confident this will be the first of many” she says.
