Techweek: Proceduralism as a catalyst for creativity

What's it all about?

SideFX is a world leader in the development of 3D animation and visual effects software for use in film, commercials and video games. SideFX's award-winning Houdini software utilizes a node-based procedural approach which provides digital artists with an unprecedented level of power, flexibility and control.

Julie Lottering, Director of Education and Training at SideFX, is creating an education program that catalyzes creativity and illuminates learning. She's aiming to make a permanent and positive shift in learning that is both aspiration and attainable for artists.

This will be a virtual talk via Zoom which will last about 45 minutes with 15 minutes for questions after.

This talk is a part of the Miramar Creative Centre series of talks. The Miramar Creative Centre is a collaboration between Victoria University of Wellington and Miramar Creative Ltd which sits amongst the Weta group buildings on Park Road and offers unrivalled access to work experience and professional connections with New Zealand’s world-leading film, animation, and game design industries. The Master of Design Technology (which has a partnership with SideFX Houdini) and Master of Fine Arts (Creative Practice)—Film and Music/Sound are taught from here.
