2020 Māori Orientation Week

The week started off with a massive pōhiri to welcome tauira and whānau to the university at Te Herenga Waka Marae. Throughout the week tauira attended different workshops, information and whakawhanaungatanga sessions to help them settle into their new environment.

Tēnā tātou katoa,

Ko Porourangi Templeton-Reedy toku ingoa. He uri ahau nō Ngāti Porou, Ngāi Tūhoe me Tainui anō hoki. He Kaitakawaenga Māori ahau ki Te Herenga Waka.

This year we had the priviledge of running our annual Māori orientation programme for our Tauira Hou coming to Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington. As someone who has never attended a Victoria University O-Week, this also felt like a proper ‘Welcome to Victoria University, nau mai haere mai’ for myself, which was tino pai!

The week started off with a massive pōhiri to welcome tauira and whānau to the university at Te Herenga Waka Marae. Throughout the week tauira attended different workshops, information and whakawhanaungatanga sessions to help them settle into this new environment. A highlight of the week was our whānau lunch and expo held on the ātea of the marae. We had different support groups and our tauira Māori associations set up stalls and talk to many students about what they do and how they can support them during their studies.

A huge mihi goes to the Māori O-week committee, the marae staff, Āwhina, Te Kawa a Maui, our awesome Māori student ambassadors and everyone else that helped pull this week off, this week would not have been successful without you. But of course a huge mihi goes out to Aunty Tay (or AunTay or Tayla Cook) for all the mahi she has put in not only for this week but everything she has done to promote the university and inspire  tauira Māori in High School.

This wraps up my first O-week at Te Herenga Waka and i look forward to help take the reigns ā tērā tau.

Nā reira, tēnei te mihi ki a koutou katoa!

Nā Porourangi Templeton-Reedy   Kaitakawaenga Māori
