Thinking About PhD?

Welcome to MAI Ki Pōneke

MAI ki Pōneke Provides Advice, Support and Information

MAI ki Pōneke provides advice, support and information to Māori and Indigenous PhD candidates in the Wellington area. We also help those who are thinking about enrolling for a PhD but aren't sure how to get started.

MAI members come from across the disciplines including:

  • Social sciences and humanities
  • sciences and technology
  • law and architecture

MAI ki Pōneke is for students in the Wellington and Kapiti regions, no matter where you're enrolled.

We have students at the moment from Massey University, Waikato University, Te Wananga o Awanuiarangi and Te Wananga o Raukawa.

We run workshops on study-related topics, host Māori PhD graduates and academics who come to speak about their experiences and provide mentoring for newly enrolled doctoral students.

We also get together for whakawhanaungatanga, a dinner here and there and a relaxed environment to meet like minded PhD students.

MAI ki Pōneke is part of an international network of postgraduate students hosted by Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga at the University of Auckland.
