New database—Victorian Popular Culture

Victorian Popular Culture is one of several databases recently added to the library collection.

With this new database you can immerse yourself in popular entertainment from America, Britain, and Europe, from between 1779 and 1930. Discover artifacts from the world of music halls, circuses, fairgrounds, travelling shows, seances, stage magic, hypnosis, and much more.

  • Examine posters, photographs, scrapbooks, pamphlets, event programmes, and songbooks.
  • Watch archive footage from the earliest days of cinema 1894–1926.

Victorian carousel fairground ride with red and gold accent colours. Roof is surrounded by landscape paintings in ornate panels alternating with cherubs.
