Kevin Riordan is Director General of Defence Legal Services for the New Zealand Defence Force and an adjunct lecturer in the Law Faculty. After graduation and admission to the bar Kevin has filled a number of legal positions in the NZDF and has provided advice on international law, the law of armed conflict and the law relating to counter-terrorism. He has served in the Middle East, Bosnia, Afghanistan, the Pacific and South East Asia, and has provided advice on all major peacekeeping deployments involving NZDF. Kevin was part of the NZ delegation to the Rome conference of the International Criminal Court and the subsequent preparatory conferences on the elements of crimes as well as the 2010 ICC Review Conference in Kampala. Kevin has written number of manuals and other publications on operational law, the law of armed conflict and war crimes.
