The New Zealand Centre of International Economic Law and the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand are delighted to facilitate a discussion with Gary Born, NZCIEL Inaugural Senior Visiting Research Fellow.

Gary Born is widely regarded as the world’s preeminent authority on international commercial arbitration and international litigation. While in New Zealand he will discuss his recent initiative: a Bilateral Arbitration Treaty regime. This is aimed at addressing the difficulties businesses face when a dispute arises because of the structure of cross-border litigation which is often time-consuming, expensive, and inefficient. Gary Born’s proposed Bilateral Arbitration Treaty regime would replace cross border litigation as the default dispute resolution process and use neutral principles of international arbitration to create a pragmatic framework for resolving international commercial disputes.

Gary Born is the chair of Wilmer Hale’s International Arbitration Practice Group. He has been ranked for the past 20 years as one of the world’s leading international arbitration practitioners and the leading arbitration practitioner in London.
