About IELTS

Welcome to IELTS, the International English Language Testing System. The Test Centre at Wellington is conveniently located in the School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies at the Victoria University of Wellington’s Kelburn campus. We are the longest running IELTS Test Centre in New Zealand and have administered IELTS in Wellington since 1991.

Since 1989, IELTS has been proven and trusted worldwide to provide a secure, global, authentic and customer-focused test which measures true to life ability to communicate in English. Over 9,000 educational institutions, government agencies and professional organizations across 135 countries around the world recognize IELTS scores as a trusted and valid indicator of communicate skills in English.

IELTS is designed to assess the language competence of candidates who need to study or work where English is the language of communication. In New Zealand, IELTS is used as a measure of English language proficiency for immigration, university entrance requirements, and other professional designations.

With over 3 million tests taken last year, IELTS is the world’s most popular English proficiency test for higher education and global migration, and sets the standard for integrity, research and innovation. IELTS is jointly owned by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English.

Warning of scam advertisements!

Advertisements on a number of social media sites claim to provide services for IELTS test takers, such as registering for IELTS, collection of results and making arrangements for a re-mark of the test.

We advise all potential IELTS test takers to avoid using such services that are not directly affiliated to IELTS.

You will be able to check your results on https://results.ieltsessentials.com on the 13th day after you have taken your test. Online results are usually available by 6 pm NZ time. All IELTS Official test centres will post your Test Report Form to you, or you can pick it up in person, once the result is released. Please contact your nearest IELTS test centre for any support that you may require.
