A large proportion of Jane's role as an associate clinical nurse manager involves running nurse-led cariology clinics in which patients with an established diagnosis are assessed for ongoing symptoms and their medication is adjusted accordingly.

Jane enrolled in the HLTH 529 Nurse Prescribing Practicum course and, with the support of a clinical mentor, she successfully completed all the components of the course and the Nursing Council of New Zealand granted her designated prescribing authority. She can now prescribe specific medications, making it easier for patients to get the treatment and health care they need.

"Being able to prescribe allows me to work at the top of my scope of practice, and improves the efficiency of our service whilst I continue to be fully supported by my entire team," she says.
