New Historians Conference 2021

Lectures, talks and seminars

TBC

Description

History is all around us. It tells the story of where we have been, how we got here, and where we are going. As a result, the way our own history is framed is hugely important for our collective cultural conscience, as is demonstrated in the current restructuring of the New Zealand History Curriculum in schools. The 2021 New Historians Conference aims to investigate how the way we talk about how the way we present history shapes our very understandings of our lives.

The postgraduate students from the History department at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington are pleased to invite submissions for the 16th annual New Historians Conference to be held on 23-24 August 2021. We invite submissions from current students and recent graduates, along the theme of Presenting History.

Presentations are to be 20 minutes long, with 10 minutes following for questions.

The conference will be held in person as well as digitally, utilising Zoom to make sure that neither distance nor COVID-19 restrictions stop those who are interested in participating. If you are not able to make it to Wellington, or would prefer to present over Zoom, please indicate this in your response.

To register, please send an abstract (200 words) and brief biographical statement to newhistorians@vuw.ac.nz by 12 July 2021.
