Description

Come and enjoy an evening hosted by Professor of Theatre David O'Donnell in conversation with alumna and CE/Tumu Whakarae of The Court Theatre, Barbara George, and alumnus and Artistic Director at The Court, Dan Pengelly.

Hear Barbara and Dan talk about their roles, contemporary issues regarding theatre today (including the impacts of Covid-19 and the associated lockdowns) and what the future of the performing arts may look like.

Refreshments will be provided and there will be plenty of time for socialising with fellow graduates and former classmates.

Speaker Bios

Barbara George completed a Bachelor of Music from Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington in the 1980s before embarking on a number of leadership roles in performing arts companies in New Zealand, Australia and the United States. She took up her current role as CE/Tumu Whakarae of The Court Theatre in late 2018 after spending five years as CEO of the Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki.

Dan Pengelly studied commerce and cookery in Canterbury before heading north to the capital where he graduated with a Master of Theatre Arts (Directing) from Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington and Toi Whakaari. He was the Associate Director of The Court Theatre from 2014 - 2016 before becoming the Artistic Director at Centrepoint Theatre in Palmerston North for two years. He returned to The Court last year to take up the post of Artistic Director.
