Concerts and recitals

St Peter's on Willis St

Description

Camerata heralds the Christmas season with two popular Baroque works, Corelli’s vivacious Christmas Concerto for strings and continuo, and Bach’s serene Oboe and Violin concerto, featuring soloists Robert Orr and Anne Loeser, from the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. The final work continues Camerata’s exploration of early Haydn symphonies with his tenth symphony.

Camerata is a non-profit Wellington chamber orchestra founded in 2015 by Directors Liz Pritchett and the late Ian Lyons (luthier and cellist) and led by Musical Director and Concertmaster Anne Loeser, first violinist with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

They perform without a conductor, seeking to keep a chamber music feel and focus on works for smaller forces to complement the intimacy of church venues, with acoustics that these pieces were often conceived for. Early Haydn symphonies for small orchestra form the core of Camerata’s repertoire, with other works from a range of eras, including pieces for string orchestra.

Musicians include professional performers from the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Wellington, tertiary music students and non-professionals. Concerts are short (an hour or less) and after work. Camerata seeks to make beautiful classical music accessible to all.

Koha appreciated.
