London alumnni are warmly invited to a special event featuring two alumni from the University's International Institute of Modern Letters

Annaleese Jochems and Tayi Tibble's debut books, both published by Victoria University Press, have won prizes at the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards and they have been invited to the UK to be part of the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

Hosted by the University's Provost, Professor Wendy Larner, this event is a chance for alumni in London to hear Annaleese and Tayi give readings from their books followed by a short Q&A session. Afterwards is a chance to mix and mingle over drinks and nibbles.

Speaker Bios

Annaleese Jochems was born in 1994 and grew up in Northland. In 2016 she completed an MA in Creative writing from the International Institute of Modern Letters. She was the Adam Foundation Prize winner of that year. Annaleese’s debut novel Baby was published by Victoria University Press in 2017. Baby was nominated for the Acorn Fiction Award and won the Hubert Church prize for Best First book at the 2018 Ockham New Zealand Book awards.

Tayi Tibble (Te Whānau ā Apanui/Ngāti Porou) was born in 1995 and lives in Wellington. In 2017 she completed a Masters in Creative Writing from the International Institute of Modern Letters. Her first book, Poūkahangatus, won the Jesse Mackay Best First Book Award for poetry in 2019 at the Ockham Book Awards, and the 2017 Adam Prize from the International Institute of Modern Letters.
