Emeritus Professor’s legacy will support Pasifika students on their educational journey

New postgraduate Business degree scholarship to support Pasifika students on their academic journey.

“A vibrant and innovative Pasifika business community will play a major role in the continued economic and social success of New Zealand. The Luamanuvao Dame Winnie Laban Pasifika Business Postgraduate Degree Scholarship helps remove barriers current and future Pasifika leaders may face in accessing the skills needed for a thriving Pasifika business sector,” said Professor Ian Williamson, formerly head of Wellington School of Business and Government (WSBG), when asked about the new Luamanuvao Winnie Laban Pasifika Business Postgraduate Degree Scholarship, that he established late in 2020.

The scholarship is available to Pasifika students undertaking postgraduate study at WSBG and has been named in honour of Assoc Prof, Hon. Luamanuvao Dame Winnie Laban, Assistant Vice Chancellor (Pasifika).

“Often, life’s circumstances mean that our Pasifika students are not able to continue on to postgraduate study. Opportunities like this are extremely important to ensure that aspirational Pasifika students have the same chance as others to continue their education,” says Dame Winnie.

“It’s wonderful that Professor Ian Williamson has left a legacy in the form of this scholarship to support Pasifika students to advance their academic journey.”

The scholarship will award $5000 to a postgraduate student at Wellington School of Business and Government for one year and applications are now open.

Applications for study in Trimester 1 or 2 is Monday 1 March, and for study in Trimester 3 is Sunday 31 October.
