Wellington Faculty of Education's Māori-Medium Schooling Project Director Rāwiri Toia and Dean Professor Stephen Dobson recently presented at the 2021 PPTA (Post Primary Teachers' Association) Education Conference which was supported by Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. This year’s theme was "advancing the dream of public education" and the keynote speakers shared their visions and thoughts on how an equitable and effective education system can be achieved. Many other Faculty of Education staff and PhD candidates presented workshops and research sessions. See the full programme here.

Rāwiri Toia’s presentation, An akonga centred, focused on authentic indigenous curriculum. His presentation sought to answer: When the default reference position for decision making in the education sector is English-medium schooling, how will Māori-medium schooling ever reach its potential?

Professor Stephen Dobson chaired the closing forum, From dream to reality, with Aotea College Tumuaki/Principal and Secondary Principals' Council chair Kate Gainsford, PPTA president Melanie Webber, University of New South Wales' Dr Pasi Sahlberg, and Rāwiri Toia.
