Valuable Indonesian education partnership signed

Victoria University of Wellington has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) to collaborate on the development of a Centre of Excellence in Teaching for the Future.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Grant Guilford says, “this Centre will strengthen professional development in the education sector, and potentially other sectors”.

His counterpart from UNJ, the Rector, Professor Intan Ahmad Musmeinan was welcomed to the University to sign the memorandum at an event last week. Both universities are known for the quality of their education faculties, with UNJ beginning life over 50 years ago as a teacher training college, and the 125-year-old Wellington College of Education becoming part of the University around 15 years ago.

Professor Guilford says, “this MoU will lay the groundwork for a range of initiatives, including executive education, teacher training, academic exchange and research”.

This collaboration was the result of work led by Viclink’s general manager, international development, Jeff Howe.
