Professional Career

I have been a teacher, including a teacher in a Special School, Assistant Principal, Adviser to Junior Classes and Principal of three schools. The first was Randwick School in Moera as a Teaching Principal.

Then I was Principal of Pencarrow School in Wainuiomata. I have just retired after twenty years as Principal of Karori West Normal School—Te Kura O Waipahihi.

Professional Activities

I have been a member of various Advisory Committees for New Zealand Council of Educational Research, Wellington College of Education, Education Review Office and Ministry of Education.

I have been a director of three Advanced Studies for Teachers Courses that focused on leadership and assessment.

I have been a facilitator for the Ministry of Education’s Assessment for Better Learning contract.

I have been a guest lecturer at the VUW College of Education.

I have taken workshops at various educational and union courses, seminars and conferences, including, in the past, summer workshops on junior school mathematics in Michigan, USA.

I was workshop facilitator with NZSTA on two NZEI/NZSTA/MOE contracts.

I was a section leader for the New Zealand Curriculum Implementation.

I was the elected Wellington Area Council Representative on the NZEI- Te Riu Roa Principals Council for 15 years.

I have been the chairperson of NZEI Wellington Area Council

I am a member of the NZEI Honour Committee.

I am the NZEI representative on the HealthCarePlus Grants Committee
