Dean's lecture: 'Wellbeing-ness' in an Age of Global Educational Change—Old Wine in New Bottles?

Dean's lecture: 'Wellbeing-ness' in an Age of Global Educational Change—Old Wine in New Bottles?

In this year's Dean's lecture, Professor Stephen Dobson will explore what it means to learn and create a culture of wellbeing, where inclusion and belonging are central.

Only a few years ago this would have been understood in terms such as social and emotional learning, but now the buzz word globally and especially in New Zealand is 'wellbeing'.

The challenge is twofold: Firstly, how to conceptualise and practise what Professor Dobson calls 'wellbeing-ness'; secondly, to assess and put a culturally appropriate value on it and in so doing, move beyond merely a taxonomy of the emotions—resilience and exclusion.
