Design competition: Green Impact Awards
Design and make awards that can be given to Green Impact participants for achieving the Pīwakawaka (fantail) Award! This is a great opportunity to boost your design portfolio.
The guidelines for the design of the awards includes the following:
- Produce 25 awards for the Pīwakawaka (fantail) Award
- The awards must use mostly recycled materials, ideally found on one of the VUW campuses or the Halls of Residence, to reflect the kaupapa of Green Impact
- Up to $200 for purchasing additional recycled materials from the landfill store available
- The awards should be innovative and attractive to encourage interest from other staff and students about the Green Impact programme
- The award can be a functional object like a clock, paperweight or recycling bin, OR the award can be purely decorative i.e. to be hung on the wall or displayed on a counter or desk
- The award needs to feature the Green Impact logo (to be supplied) according to branding specifications
Project timeline:
- Design proposal submitted by: 22 August 2019
- Awards to be produced by: 1 October 2019
- Award ceremony: 24 October 2019
Background:
What is Green Impact? Green Impact is a change and engagement program – it helps people understand sustainability and social responsibility, shows them what they can do to make a difference, and supports them in achieving these actions.
Green Impact has been developed over the last ten years by the National Union of Students (NUS) in the United Kingdom, using social change theory and NUS’ expertise to produce a cyclical model based on the themes of continual improvement, collaboration and meaningful change.
Green Impact aims to establish new social norms and inspire people with the skills and passion needed to make a difference.In 2017, ACTS partnered with the NUS UK to become the regional delivery partner for the Green Impact Program in Australia and New Zealand.
Each organisation that uses the Green Impact model develops their own bespoke program creating a simple but sophisticated online toolkit to guide and monitor people’s progress together with a dynamic, engaging support and communication package which is then delivered in collaboration with students and Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS) creating a community of people working together towards common, agreed goals.
Each year awards are given to teams within each organisation adding light competition and a useful way of inspiring and recognising achievements. Students receive training to enable them to support and verify each program aiding their own understanding of sustainability and social justice as well as their professional development.
