CMIC research showcased at Japan's largest conference for game developers
Isamu Hasegawa, adjunct research fellow at Victoria University of Wellington’s Computational Media Innovation Centre (CMIC) and Square Enix presented leading-edge research at Japan's largest gathering for game developers - the Computer Entertainment Developers Conference (CEDEC2019*) in Yokohama.
In a session about high-end character graphics using Luminous Engine, Mr. Hasegawa and his collaborators unveiled the latest technology from Luminous Productions** with the short reel, "Back Stage", which was created with their next-generation real-time game graphics engine.
Mr. Hasegawa also talked about plans to develop photorealistic facial animation and character modeling, and the benefits of collaborating with universities, describing CMIC's role as a university partner.
Professor Ken Anjyo, co-Director of CMIC, says, "It's a great opportunity for CMIC to have our strong research potential and industry collaboration showcased. We are in discussions with our partners about what the future holds in the game industry."
*CEDEC is the largest conference for game developers in Japan. The number of attendees is around 8,000.
