Transfer: The art of Liu Jianhua in Wellington

"It's so sumptuous ... Mr Liu talks about the seduction and desire of beauty. One of the magical things about this exhibition is the way he takes one of the oldest mediums and brings something so new to it” -  Courtney Johnston, Director, The Dowse Art Museum

During Wellington's International Festival, the Dowse Art Museum is exhibiting two installations by renowned Chinese artist Liu Jianhua (刘建华).   At the invitation of Dowse director Courtney Johnston, the Confucius Institute extended support for Mr Liu’s visit and events surrounding the exhibition.  The beauty and emotional force of Mr Liu’s works have drawn many visitors to the exhibition. On 20 February CI VUW Arts Adviser Dr Luo Hui moderated a public conversation between Mr Liu, Dowse Senior Curator Emma Bugden and Victoria University’s Professor Wang Yiyan.  In describing Mr Liu’s artistic expression and creativity with porcelain, Dr Luo also spoke of the magical 'alchemy' wrought by the artist in interpreting an ancient craft for contemporary times. CI VUW will present a cultural event at the Dowse on 17 April to further celebrate Liu Jianhua's art and vision. Save the date!
