On 20 March Mr Wang Menghui, Standing Member of CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and Party Secretary of CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee, visited our Confucius Institute with his delegation.  Xiamen City is the sister city of Wellington and Xiamen University is the partner university of Victoria University CI.  On hand to greet the Party Secretary was Vice President Zhan Xinli of Xiamen University and Tony Browne, chair of the CI VUW Advisory Board. They were accompanied by CI and other staff members and seven Mandarin Language Assistants from Xiamen University who are teaching in Wellington schools this year.  Mr Wang was briefed on the work of the Confucius Institute at VUW which was established in 2010 by Xi Jinping, then Vice President of China, and which had won the Outstanding Confucius Institute award for 2015. In early April, Victoria University Deputy Vice Chancellor Frazer Allan visited Xiamen University with Mr Browne to take part in the 95th Anniversary celebrations of Xiamen University.
