In bright sunshine, Wellington’s prize-winning Chinese language students Annabelle Jessop, Lucy Berger and Peter Lang represented the Confucius Institute on our Chinese New Year float. Also on the float were dance students of Discover China!, Dance instructor Li Haibo, Martial Arts instructor Meng Fanxiao and Confucius Institute teacher Lu Chunxiao and her husband Tan Xinxue. They were applauded by happy crowds as the festival parade wound its way around Wellington on 14 February 2016 to welcome in the Year of the Fire Monkey.

Dance was at the centre of our Chinese New Year celebrations this year.The Confucius Institute sponsored a very successful  series of Discover China! Dance workshops at several Wellington schools in February. This was a collaboration with Asian Events Trust to celebrate the visit of Xiamen City’s renowned dance and performance troupe, The Little Egrets.  The school children relished the chance to learn the professional moves of the superb Little Egrets!

惠灵顿维多利亚大学孔院花车参与惠灵顿迎春节活动

当地时间2月14日下午，新西兰首都惠灵顿市中心热闹非凡，数以万计的市民或在海边，或在草坪，或在高处，高举着相机，高喊着“Happy Chinese New Year”。大街上，锣鼓震天，金狮跃舞，身着亮丽中国传统服装的人们，载歌载舞，向市民们挥手致意。这是惠灵顿庆新春花车巡游活动，众多新西兰友好社团，华侨团体均参与了此次花车巡游活动。

惠灵顿维多利亚大学孔子学院的花车上载有在“汉语桥”比赛全球前五、大洋洲冠军的安贝和露诗，“汉语桥”选拔赛第三名的Peter，惠灵顿小学的学生以及孔院品牌项目“发现中国”工作坊的指导教师。值得一提的是，“汉语桥”比赛获奖选手的中国服饰均由自己准备，有从中国旅行时买的，也有选手特地为了此次花车巡游与父母一起连夜缝制的，由此可见他们对中国文化的了解和对花车活动的热情

惠灵顿维多利亚大学孔子学院积极参与惠灵顿的各项新年庆祝活动。除花车巡游外，孔院还参与、支持了亚洲集市、市政厅“庆元宵”、新年烟火等活动。
