CI VUW Principals’ Delegation meet Chinese education sector

The CI VUW Principals’ Delegation had a very successful visit to Beijing and Xiamen from 10 April to 23 April 2016.

Principals and deputy principals from secondary, intermediate and primary schools in Wellington, Rotorua, Tauranga and Wairarapa enjoyed a series of visits to education organizations and schools as well as cultural and historical sites.

In Beijing, the delegation called on the Chinese Ministry of Education, New Zealand Embassy, West Academy of Beijing and the Beijing Chaoyang Foreign Language School.

In Xiamen, they went to the Xiamen No. 1 School and the Xiamen Experimental School, and met with professors and students of Xiamen University.  Views of the similarities and differences between the Chinese and New Zealand educational systems were shared between the principals and their Chinese hosts.

Cultural experience was gained from their visits to the Great Wall and the Forbidden City in Beijing, Xiamen University, Fujian Hakka Earth Buildings and Gulang Island. They learned about the history of Fujian Overseas Chinese and had the chance to take part in Chinese tea ceremonies, music and other traditional activities.

By attending classroom activities and talking face to face with educational officers, local principals, teachers and students, some of the principals were able to establish some sister-school interests and staff and student exchange programmes. They said that the visit had provided a greater understanding of China, its people and education. They agreed with Xiamen University Vice-President Zhan Xinli’s words at the farewell gathering that there was much that could be done in the areas of language and culture through further cooperation between China and New Zealand. The delegation expressed strong interest in further promoting Chinese language teaching in their schools with the help of the Confucius Institute at Victoria University of Wellington.

The next year Principals’ Delegation will be from 10th, April to 21st, April.

新西兰惠灵顿维多利亚大学孔子学院校长访华团收获颇丰

维大孔院校长访华团于4月10日抵达中国北京,4月23日自厦门返回新西兰,圆满完成为期两周的在北京和厦门的访问与考察。

该校长团成员是来自惠灵顿、罗托鲁瓦地区、陶朗加、怀拉拉帕等地区的中小学校长和副校长,和新西兰政府官员。维大孔院和厦门大学为校长们安排了丰富多彩的文化体验以及京厦两地相关机构和学校的参观访问。校长们在京期间,访问了中国教育部、新西兰大使馆、国家汉办、北京的京西国际学校、北京朝阳区外国语学校;在厦门期间,访问了厦门一中、厦门试验小学,并与厦门大学的教授和学生见面,畅谈中新教育的异同与借鉴。此外,校长们参观了北京的文化名胜长城和紫禁城、厦门大学校园、福建的客家文化土楼群落、厦门的鼓浪屿,体验了校园就餐、了解了闽南地区的华侨历史,欣赏了中国茶道、香道、古琴演奏、古诗吟唱和汉服和传统礼仪。

此次访问,校长体验课堂教学、与教育官员、校长、教师和学生们都进行了近距离的交流和沟通,有些校长在学校参访时,立即咨询建立姐妹学校事宜,并表达了对教师和学生的交流项目的浓厚兴趣。校长们都说此次访问对中国有了深切的认识和了解,也都认同厦门大学副校长詹心丽在告别式商的讲话:在中新两国深化各个领域合作的时代背景下,中新语言和文化交流合作还大有可为。校长们还表示要借助孔子学院的平台,大力加强汉语教学。
