Mandarin Language Assistant Reception at Parliament

The VUW CI and MP Dr Jian Yang to host reception at Parliament Buildings on 21 November to celebrate the work of Mandarin Language Assistants.

To celebrate the outstanding achievements of our 12 Mandarin Language Assistants (MLA) this year (think 3,629 primary, intermediate, high school and tertiary students learning Chinese in 175 classes in 18 schools and tertiary institutions in the lower North Island) and their fellow MLAs working in Auckland and Christchurch, the Confucius Insitute and MP Dr Jian Yang will jointly host a thank-you and farewell reception in Parliament Buildings on 21 November. NZ Minister of Education Hekia Parata and the newly arrived Chinese Ambassador HE Lutong Wang will be among the VIPs attending this function.

Mandarin Language Assistants are young Chinese volunteer teachers recruited and dispatched by the Confucius Institute to assist with Chinese teaching at NZ schools each year.
