Te Herenga Waka Associate Professor selected to judge the ‘Oscars of Education’
Dr Christian Schott, Associate Professor in Tourism Management, has been appointed as a Finalist Judge for the Wharton-QS 2021 Reimagine Education Awards.
Aptly named the ‘Oscars of Education’, these awards celebrate the best innovations in teaching and learning and attract top educators, consultants, investors, and technology companies from around the world.
Reimagine Education Program Manager, Jack Moran said, “The Reimagine Education Awards are designed to provide reliable, robust signals to the education sector regarding the quality of teaching and learning across the world’s universities – and those edtech solutions that have most successfully demonstrated their efficacy, uniqueness, and scalability.”
Associate Professor Schott is one of 66 highly experienced Finalist judges selected from 521 candidacies and hailing from 45 countries and territories.
“I feel very privileged to be appointed into this select Finalist group alongside people from MIT, Wharton School University of Pennsylvania, ANU, edX, Facebook and IBM Research,” said Associate Professor Schott.
This is not Associate Professor Schott’s first involvement with the awards, taking home the Gold Award Sustainability in December 2020. He was recognised for leading the development of a VR experience that lets students learn about cultures and sustainability challenges around the world.
The project was driven by the desire to make learning enjoyable and the need to help students develop critical and creative thinking to address the pressing challenges of sustainability and climate change faced by communities around the world.
The Reimagine Education Awards offer overall winners US$50,000 in funding, and global visibility for their work.
