Evaluating the acceptability of autism support

The parents of four young autistic children were asked about their perceptions of a low-intensity ESDM programme that had been delivered to their children.

The programme was delivered by therapists trained in the ESDM over 12 weeks.

Main findings

  • Parent rated their experiences of the programme positively.
  • Parents commented particularly on:
    • the relationship between the child and the therapist
    • the alignment of the ESDM with their own parenting style
    • the social significance of child improvements in behaviour.
