Making a material from waste project

Find out about the Wellington School of Architecture’s Making a Material from Waste project.

Closing the loops in the built environment

Students are asked to find inventive and effective ways to use waste materials to produce new products. This project is aimed at moving from a linear cradle to grave mentality to a more cyclic cradle to cradle approach to design which aims to reduce waste while addressing materials use in the built environment.

Victoria University of Wellington would like to thank Porirua City Council for funding used to initially collate and develop the website content.

We would also like to thank WasteMINZ, Zero Waste Trust New Zealand and Winstone Wallboards for their generous support and assistance in this project. We also acknowledge the help of Poly Palace and The Ministry for the Environment.

Student work

As part of the project students have found inventive and effective ways to use waste materials. A full list of students and their work is available to be viewed by the materials used and by year of the work completed.
