Research interests
I lead a glacier research group in the Antarctic Research Centre. My aim is to understand the interactions between glaciers and the climate system. In particular, I use glaciological data and computer models to:
- interpret past climate changes on orbital to decadal timescales;
- predict future ice behaviour.
Research projects
- Did a previous collapse of the Antarctic Ice Sheet cause abrupt climate change in the Southern Hemisphere? (PI, New Zealand Marsden Fund, Standard Grant, 960 k, 2018-2020)
- Impacts of climate change on New Zealand's frozen water resources (PI, Deep South National Science Challenge, Impacts and Implications Programme 2017-2019)
- Potential for non-linear, threshold-driven response of Antarctic outlet glaciers; insights from David Glacier, Antarctica (PI, New Zealand Antarctic Research Institute, 2017-2019)
- Antarctic influences on New Zealand climate during the Antarctic Cold Reversal (PI, New Zealand Antarctic Research Institute, 2015-2016)
- Constraining Antarctica’s contribution to past global sea level rise in Northern Victoria Land and the Western Ross Sea (AI, New Zealand Antarctic Research Institute, 2015-2016)
- 'Structure from Motion' as an addition to the end of summer snowline survey and New Zealand glacier monitoring. (AI, sub-contract from NIWA, 2014-2017)
- Attribution of New Zealand glaciers to climate change (PI, sub-contract from NIWA, 2013-2014)
