Title
Reconstructing Ross Sea Antarctic ice sheet fluctuations from Mid-Miocene to current through glaciomarine sedimentology via Ross Embayment, Antarctica.
Supervisor
Project objectives and description
Current:
Evaluating the sedimentology and stratigraphy of core site 1521 from IODP Expedition 374. Reconstructing the observed data of the site into paleoenvironments from the Mid-Miocene at ~16 Ma to present day.
Future:
Use grain size analysis, CT-Scans, and downhole logs of site 1521 to develop cyclicity at site relating to water depth and orbital responses during the Miocene Climate Optimum.
Integrate data from above work into DSDP 270 and ANDRILL-2A cores to create a cross-basin analysis of pre-Miocene Climate Optimum history.
