On 12 November 2019 Dr Alex Gerst, astronaut and Victoria University of Wellington 2019 distinguished alumni award recipient, gave a public lecture at the University.

Dr Gerst is a highly regarded volcanologist and astronaut, who has undertaken two missions to the International Space Station (ISS). In this public lecture he shared his experience of space travel and the unique perspective he has gained on earth.

Dr Gerst completed a Master’s degree in Science at Victoria University of Wellington. After completing his doctorate at the University of Hamburg he was selected as an astronaut by the European Space Agency in 2009.
